Drawing and painting: the key to children’s emotional growth

Drawing and painting: the key to children’s emotional growth

As Einstein said, imagination comes before knowledge.

A child’s imagination contains a world that is formed of his experiences, his desires and his fears. And the best thing is that they can express this freely and creatively: singing, dancing, writing, painting, or trying to solve puzzles.

A child’s creativity is not just a form of expressing his feelings or thoughts; it is also a way that a child uses to learn about the world surrounding him/her. For this reason, it is crucial that we never stifle a child’s spontaneous creative manifestations, but rather encourage the child to express himself through games, by inventing stories with them, and above all helping them to paint with their hands and their body: This is how they take possession of the images that they will later represent their world.

Their freedom to express themselves and to be able to discover the entire new “universe” before them will be fundamental for their good emotional development.
